EDP mix and the European recovery

What changed in FY 2025

Danone reported full-year 2025 sales of €27,283 million, up 4.5% on a like-for-like basis, per the company's FY 2025 results press release. The composition is the structural story:

  • Volume/mix contributed +2.7%, the highest in three years
  • Pricing contributed +1.8%, meaningfully lower than the inflation-cycle peaks
  • Q4 closed at +4.7% LFL, momentum into 2026

Danone described "sustained momentum in Essential Dairy & Plant-Based products" in Europe. North America showed softer Q4 results despite High Protein momentum. China, North Asia and Oceania closed strong on Specialized Nutrition and EDP.

Why the mix story matters

Three years of CPG growth have been pricing-led. When pricing slows from 6 to 8% to under 2%, volume has to do the work or the top line stalls. Danone's 2025 result is the first European data point showing volume can carry the load, but only if pack architecture and brand mix have been quietly rebuilt during the pricing cycle.

The EDP brands powering this (Activia, Actimel, Alpro, Oikos, per Danone's public brand list and Wikipedia) have been the levers. Activia premium tier expansion and Actimel format work are the visible architecture moves. Alpro plays the plant-based tier; Oikos the protein-heavy Greek-style segment.

Margins and cash

Recurring operating margin improved 44 basis points to 13.4%. Free cash flow reached €2.8 billion. The dividend was raised 4.7% to €2.25 per share. The cash generation is what funds the next mix push.

What to watch in 2026

  • Whether the pricing-vs-volume split holds the FY 2025 pattern (volume/mix > pricing)
  • Whether Q4's +4.7% LFL extends into Q1 2026 reporting in April
  • Whether North America EDP recovers, or whether High Protein has to do all the carrying
  • Whether Activia premium tier expansion across European country mix continues. This is the lever most visible at the shelf
