Lv Jie, a Chinese apple cider vinegar (ACV) producer founded in 1999, is expanding into Southeast Asia with a lineup of ready-to-drink products designed to address the two biggest barriers to mainstream adoption: taste and convenience.
Taste and convenience as the barrier
Apple cider vinegar already has strong consumer awareness for gut health and blood sugar management benefits across Asia, according to the company. But the traditional product is highly acidic, requires dilution at roughly a 10:1 ratio before consumption, and has a strong taste and smell that deters many users. Lv Jie's newer products combine apple cider vinegar with apple juice and inulin (a prebiotic fiber) to deliver the wellness positioning without the unpleasant sensory experience.
Format strategy for younger consumers
The company is launching two main RTD formats. Portable 15ml sachets and 200ml canned beverages are aimed at younger consumers seeking convenient functional wellness drinks. The 260ml bottles offer another size option for different preferences. Lv Jie is also selling pure ACV sachets in 15ml portions intended for once or twice daily consumption, preferably before food. The packaging design explicitly targets younger consumers who are studying or working.
Brand and pricing positioning
Lv Jie markets one product under the "Vinegar Fairy" or "Xiao Xian" concept, positioning it primarily at female consumers and those interested in wellness and beauty-from-within trends. The company claims its products retail at roughly half the price of comparable offerings from Bragg or Heinz, which it attributes to controlling the full production process from growing to finished product.
Southeast Asia rollout and channels
The company currently sells through both online and offline channels in China, its main market. Singapore is intended to serve as the gateway into the wider APAC market. The firm plans to target importers, distributors and convenience retailers such as 7-Eleven and Watsons in Southeast Asia this year. It has already entered Malaysia on a smaller scale through Chinese retail outlets. In the US, Lv Jie focuses on B2B ingredient applications in capsules and tablets, and supplies products to Costco.
Portfolio expansion
Beyond apple cider vinegar, the company has launched mulberry vinegar and mulberry juice products from its Chinese orchards. During the Chinese New Year period following the launch, the firm sold more than 200,000 cases of mulberry products to Sam's Club, a membership retail format.
Lv Jie's ACV portfolio spans beverages, powders for capsules and tablets, and food ingredients for sauces and condiments. The company also supplies bakery applications, where ACV can regulate dough acidity, act as a natural preservative, and provide fruity flavor notes for bread and baked goods.
